The initial focus of the project research was to translate the form of architectural arches—from spaces like tunnels and Gothic structures, where the presence or absence of resonance shapes our perception of sound—into ceramic shapes. Before firing, each piece was shaped with a pointed arch, reminiscent of Gothic architecture. Due to subtle differences in casting, kiln placement, and the firing process, each porcelain piece deformed uniquely, resulting in varied sounds. During the Make Sound Residency I worked between the sound studio and the black space, experimenting with installation, performance and compositions.
The porcelain bells were made at EKWC (European Ceramic Work Center in OIsterwijk, The Netherlands
